I wrote this one a long time ago, and it’s gone through a bunch of edits, but I’m done with it for now, as imperfect (and snarky) as it is.
Each Line Repeats: G, D, Am, C
Drop Out Anthem
Taking back control of our lives
Turns out we could make decisions and pick our own fights
Beyond all of the destruction and depression you’ve been through
There’s still hope for you, too!
So go fuck your college and fuck your careers
We don’t need any of your money or any of your fears
We’ll live off of dumpsters before we live on our knees
We’ll live lives of adventure and we will be free
We know we don’t need meaningful jobs, we just need meaning
So we’ll just work part time jobs waiting tables and cleaning
We’ll write and publish novels and we’ll grow our own food
We’ll do our best to smash the shackles of our old world for good
Taking back control of our minds
Turns out the American Dream is one giant lie
The suburbs are full of zombie kids on SSRI’s
And the parents are responsible but they don’t know why
The grades and expectations more out of control every year
Mental anguish, depression, and too many tears
Over dumb shit like essays, there’s no time to think
Without that are you surprised that they need a shrink?
We’ll help each other recover from this insane society
And we’ll refuse to take ourselves too seriously
We’ll play like the kids that we never got to be
And we’ll wonder at the mysteries of this reality
Taking back control of our lives
Turns out we could make decisions and pick our own fights
Beyond all of the destruction and depression you’ve been through
There’s still hope for you, too!
There’s still hope for you, too!
