Tonight I’m going to going to be hanging out with my art school friend and another friend who are both interested in making films. I’ve talked film with them before, but I have a problem with the way we go about trying to come up with ideas. We always try to come up with a story first, which is pretty difficult to do, at least for good stories, and it often results in us just puzzling to ourselves what kinds of stories we want to tell. A better way to come up with ideas (or so I posit) is by deciding on a theme or a message to convey, and then coming up with the story that acts as the best vehicle for that message. But yeah, that’s my random thought for today.
